Update Synopsis 8/13/10

Sorry for the delay my avid readers, our blog team was away on top-secret Halo: Reach related stuff that may or may not have included ninjas in tuxedos.

This weeks update was less informative then past, as the Bungie team were busy getting ready to change their office location. The update consists mostly of pictures and descriptions of many new and interesting things, such as showing off a large selection of the items in Forge, proving that cutscenes will indeed feature your customized spartan whichever armor, gender or colour they are. They detailed Race, a new gamemode in Halo: Reach as well as introducing Land Mines, similar to Trip Mines from Halo 3, these mines explode when tripped by man or machine. They talked about the Forge FX that we will be seeing in Reach. These include those from Halo 3 DLC as well as purple, green, orange and Next-Gen.

They revealed a behind-the-scenes look a the creation of the full-size Noble Team statues and the fact that if you pre-order a copy of the game from Gamestop, you are entered into a contest and can win one of the life-sized statues. (US only)

Finished off with a very 'explosive' Blame Stosh.

Urk says to bring a change of pants for gamescom. Let's hope we'll need it.

Never Forget...

With the coming of Reach, I believe that we, as a community, should not forget one of our old friends. The friend who showed us the beauty of Theater, the fledgling start of Forge, the amazing possibilities of Custom Games, the various armours that could make your Spartan unique, and if you view it as such, the addictive fun of Firefight. I speak, of course, of Halo 3.

As bright, and shiny, and awesome as Reach will no doubt be, I still believe that we should not forget where many of the refinements, and improvements in Reach started. If it weren't for the tricks we found in Forge, we likely wouldn't have had the fantastic new tools we have in Forge 2.0. If it weren't for the crazy things the community did with Custom games, or rather, the combination of Forge and Custom games we made, we wouldn't have all of the tiny little nuances available to us in Reach. If it weren't for the beginning of Armour customisation, we wouldn't have the massive Armoury in Halo: Reach. If it weren't for the addition of Firefight, then we wouldn't have it's close cousin, Firefight 2.0, and all of it's crazy possibilities, such as Gruntpocalypse, and Firefight Versus.

So, when the time comes, on September 14th, don't forget your old friend. Don't forget the basis of all the wonderful things we have to work with in Halo: Reach. Don't forget... Halo 3.

Update Synopsis 08/06/10

Bungie unveiled their latest update today at 3:09 PM PDT. The first major announcement was that they had finally completed the game. It's all over folks. They went on to thank the contract staff.

In the first section they clarify that Zealot is NOT a Midship remake. They both take place on a covenant spacecraft, that's about it. A major change is the inclusion of low-gravity combat on the outside of the ship. Space has never looked so beautiful.

Next they talked about Reflection which IS a remake of the Halo 2 classic, Ivory Tower. Is it exactly the same? No, but they say you will have no trouble adjusting to the few minor changes they made. These include a giant hologram of the planet Reach, a higher ceiling, real, swimming Koi fish, more rocks, and a new Asian-looking theme.

Their next topic was the all-new multiplayer invasion map Spire. They reveal that it IS possible to land after jumping from Spire's top ledge, but only if you land in specific areas. A major change from Boneyard is the fact that the Spartans are the ones attacking and the Elites are on Defence. Also, they say that the Falcon is indeed usable in this map, in order to assault the Elites at the top of the tower.

Next on their list was vehicles; the recently-announced Revenant is a Covenant vehicle, similar to the Wraith but smaller, with a weaker mortar with a smaller arc, but a increase in the rate of fire. The Revenant is capable of maneuvering much easier then the wraith and is more adept at splattering. The rocket-hog is pretty self explanatory. They go on to say the Falcon can seat up to 5 in Campaign, but only three in multiplayer madness. In campaign, you may find some other, stronger mounted guns (they didn't go into specifics) but again, things are toned down for multiplayer by only allowing the user to utilize mounted machine gun turrets. There are two of said turrets, one on each side of the Falcon.

Next they detailed the few selections of armor permutation you will be using when you play as Elites, either in Invasion, Covenant Slayer or FireFight VS. Check the weekly update for the actual pictures.

They ended this week's update by showing off a few hilarious photo shopped pictures including a HD wallpaper showing the Forklift in all it's glory, and a  modified version of Carter that was eerily reminiscent of George Clooney. Scary.

Topped with a Blame Stosh I'm sure I've seen before, thus ends one of the less-informative but none the less entertaining Bungie Weekly Updates.
